The mandate was to evaluate and realize the restoration work of the five military armories that are recognized as heritage interests, including the one on the Esplanade Avenue. This red brick building has an architectural value, including through the neo-Édouardien style of the decorative treatment of the façade and its harmonious integration in the neighborhood where it is located. From the front, the focus is on the main entrance because of the contrast between the red brick and the gray stone architectural details that emphasize the entry and the window above.
The exterior finish of this building had undergone accelerated wear because of the use of one-inch-deep mortar. Following the inspection, we conducted the replacement work of the brick exterior finish and used a mortar with more efficient physical properties, which is more appropriate to the environment conditions and more efficient by its physical properties. We made sure to reuse the gray stone elements as they were originally.
