The aim of the project was to demolish and rebuild a downtown Montreal building to house 62 residential units for students while maintaining the Art Deco façade. The exterior’s pure lines of the volumes of the 5th and 6th floor are emphasized by the conservation of the original metal panels.
The building is articulated around a courtyard which promotes ventilation and natural light in the residential units. Each room includes built-in storage, sanitary facilities and a kitchenette. Cantilever volumes encroach on the building next door (built in 2007 during the first phase) show the uniqueness of the property and the identical vocation of both buildings. The top floor offers community rooms, a green roof surmounts it all.
