Dunton Academy Extension
Dunton Academy, a high school of significant heritage interest, boasts a modern design designed by DeBelles & White Architect. Its asymmetrical façade is distinguished by an unique mosaic that has been recently restored. The main building accommodates the sports and assembly areas, while the classroom wing extends perpendicularly into the rear of the courtyard.
The planned expansion follows the existing layout, establishing a clear connection with the original building and ensuring smooth circulation. The new pavilion will be centered around the agora, which serves as the heart of the project. A new student entrance, designed with transparency and opening onto the inner courtyard, will seamlessly link the old and new buildings. Large windows on either side will create a strong connection between the interior and exterior, overlooking the terraces. At the rear, the buildings will enclose a spacious, lushly landscaped courtyard. In accordance with municipal regulations, the relocated parking area will be positioned laterally to minimize its visual impact on the main façade.
At the front, a public square with flowing urban furniture will welcome students, providing a convivial place for socializing. A large canopy will provide essential shade, reducing heat and glare inside the building. The main facade of the extension, designed in harmony with the existing architecture, will showcase a playful blend of ceramic and brick, with vertical brick fins accentuating the elevations of the classroom wing.
Much like a shell, each zone will be imbued with a unique atmosphere—sparking curiosity, exploring social connections, cultivating tastes, expressing creativity, and enhancing physical abilities—unleashing all possibilities.
