Pierrefonds-Roxboro Aquatic and Recreational Complex
The building, overlooking a future public square, is an integral part of the Pierrefonds-Roxboro civic center, which also includes the borough office, library, and cultural center. It is designed around two basins, with the main volume arranged at right angles to house the service areas. Circulation routes guide visitors to either the parking lot or the public square. Inside, a double-height lobby provides a view of the recreational and main pools, complemented by a monumental staircase that leads to a welcoming observation deck. A light canopy encircles the building, seamlessly connecting it with the surrounding public space where various activities will take place.
The pool is illuminated by windows at eye level, offering views of the wooded Parc du Millénaire and the public square. The visual connection allows parc visitors to have glimpses into the pool area. Clad in gleaming ribbed metal, the facades shimmer and shift with the changing light, capturing the subtle nuances of their surroundings.
The interior features a color palette of white, black, green, and orange red, complemented by wood elements. This combination creates an atmosphere that balances natural warmth with striking contrasts. To enhance inclusivity, the building includes a gender-neutral cloakroom and restrooms, featuring private, enclosed cubicles. To create a sense of security and intimacy, this entrance area features expansive glazing that provides unobstructed views between the pools and the west-facing facade.
