The expansion of the Gilles Vigneault school includes 13 classrooms, a library and a double gymnasium. Colorful touches animate the main elevation through the vertical rhythm of the masonry. Inserted between the old and the new buildings, the bright new main entrance of the school is underscored by a colored awning. The art work integrated to the project greets visitors and accompanies commuting students inside.
The new concrete building unfolds in two volumes, one is occupied by classes in alignment of the existing school and one occupied by the gymnasium and library. The library, with expansive windows, is placed at the junction; it pierces through the end of the school as to take a look at the surroundings while providing students with reading bubbles. In front, a colorful space hosts the entrance of the daycare and gymnasium.
The layout of the schoolyard, is in harmony with the concept, inspired by poetry, music and the sea. It links the inside and the outside to embellish the paths of the students throughout the day.
