Pointe-Claire’S aquatic center

Consortium Riopel Thibodeau et Associés Architectes

The expansion project of the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre included the addition of a 50 meter pool and a diving tower for the training of Olympic athletes. For the new pool, a reorganization of the main entrance of the Aquatic pool Centre was needed to ensure a good traffic flow based on the new utilities. The existing 25m was also restored and the mechanical system was completely replaced.

The exterior of the addition is composed of cement boards, blue colored masonry and glass that energize the main entrance of the sports center. The use of cobalt blue ceramic reminds of the colored brick exterior and is used to mark the key locations in the sports center.
The double sloped roof of the pool area is slightly inclined, which releases the necessary height above the dive boards while minimizing the built volume at the end of the basin. The volume is pierced by a large rectilinear opening along the slope of the roof. Its inclination is accentuated so as to give the impression that it floats. The new infrastructure also offers a large mezzanine for spectators, a multipurpose room, locker rooms and offices.
