Imposing 40 classrooms elementary school dating back to 1913, the Westmount Park school project consists in the complete interior renovation of the building. In a previous phase, several materials and pieces of furniture were salvaged, including wooden doors, which were repurposed and suspended from the library’s ceiling to create acoustic, as well as segments of marble slabs from the school’s old washrooms for the creation of furniture elements.

To create a school that is flexible, versatile, and adapted to a child’s size, the HTA team integrated furniture in the circulation areas that can be used for relaxing, reading, schoolwork, socializing or teaching. To ensure harmonious movement, promote a sense of security and make it easy for students to find their way around the school, a distinctive color pattern was used as a wayfinding element to differentiates each floor. An assembly of geometric shapes in made of vinyl tiles creates this module which forms optical illusion of three-dimensional cubes emerging from the floor.
